Just thought I’d introduce myself. I’m Beth. I’m pretty new to this blogging stuff!
I’ve tried a fair few different styles in my life. First I was just an awkward teen wearing my brothers old clothes, then I turned to My Chemical Romance t-shirts and lots of eyeliner, there was then an awkward dress phase which moved swiftly into a bit of punk, then a bit of boho (then a lot of boho) and finally I landed in the no man’s land of style. I took one look in my closet and just sighed. My wardrobe had become a mix of the most basic of basics and multiple pairs of the same jeans – not even in different colours!
Determined to find a new style that I would love and stick with, I took to my old friend Google and got browsing. Cliché I know, but I landed on a photo of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday that I became a bit obsessed with.
I’d flirted with vintage style in the past but I always thought I was too tall for it or that I wasn’t the right shape to do it justice. I’m not a girly girl and I’d always naively thought vintage dressing was all about patent handbags, kitten heels and twirly petticoats. Turns out I should have just done my research!
I started saving a library of inspirational 40’s and 50’s images on Pinterest and following lots of pinups and vintage lovers on Instagram. Slowly but surely my wardrobe transitioned. Out went the hoards of clothes that never saw the light of day and in came the staples that saw nothing but the sun… well, the clouds and the rain, it is England after all.
I’m a newbie when it comes to all things mid-century, so I decided to start MidCenturyMe to document my constantly developing journey through the world of vintage living. I’m going to post about my inspiration, reproduction clothing, cosmetics and anything I find that I think might just help someone else!
Thanks for reading, I hope you stick around 🙂
