I recently posted about iconic women’s hairstyles of the 1940’s which included some hair goddesses like Veronica Lake and Joan Crawford. This week it’s the turn of the 1950’s and some of my favourites!
I scroll through Instagram in absolute awe at some of the hairstyles I see. The talent (and patience!) is so impressive it’s unreal. I daydream about having a beautiful, glossy set that doesn’t lose shape whilst looking completely effortless. Then I remember I’ve got about three strands of hair that frizz up at the mention of rain. Good thing I live in England then… Anyway, enough moaning! Here’s some iconic ladies styles of the 1940’s!
The mid-century was home to victory rolls, sweeping curls and hair they generally moved away from the face. While these are styles I absolutely love, I don’t really have the hairline for them! I’ve got very fine hair and a weak hairline that is basically baby-hair HQ… As an alternative, I opted for a short Audrey-esque side fringe that hides the bits I’m conscious about.
